Walking In A Winter Wonderland.

Black Autumn is an atmospheric black metal project from Germany. The project was formed back in 1993 but a debut release was only released ten years later. This is his third full-length he's released since his debut full-length 2007.
This is my first album experience with Black Autumn after having heard his work on a compilation from Abridged Pause Recordings, which impressed me enough to check out this record. This record is, from what I've read, more atmospheric and ambient than his older work which were more harsh and "depressive." After listening to this album, both elements work together for most of this record, and quite well if I might add.
While the introduction track, Aion, is quite slow going and more atmospheric, I found the real opener,The Threefold Life, to contain a good balance of the two sub-genres. This is easily one of the most adventurous albums I've heard that has been put into the depressive genre, as the use of electronic beats on Seven Spirits and Aurora don't come up that often in other projects that are usually put into that genre. There is also a highly prominent use of synthe on the album as well, ranging from typical atmospherics and symphonic stuff to more electronic drones. While the use of electronics isn't anything that's original in metal, I have yet to find a project that uses them this effectively within the depressive and atmospheric genres.
The production on this is also well done, it's not clean, but not a mess. Things on here have their place, this keeps true to an aggressive black metal sound, but it's modern sounding as well, almost mechanical during some parts. While it's not the best, it is easily one of the better production to come from a band labeled with ambient, depressive, atmospheric, etc. that I've heard.
Overall, not a bad release by any stretch of the word, a very solid record. Definitely a release that I didn't expect to impress me as much as it did, this makes me want to check out the other two full-lengths that preceded this even more. Definitely worth checking out if you want to hear the alternative to Xasthur's noise assault take on atmosphere, really cool.
Overall Score: 8

Subterraneo HeavY

Transcurren así los minutos  paseando por “The power of the eye”, “Waste land”, “The alcoholchrist”, “Prelude”, “Spit on the throne”, “Condemned”, “Drugod”.

review from SLUDGE SWAMP
http://sludgeswamp.blogspot.com/2010/03 ... iness.html

The abuse in adjectives and nouns describing weight is compulsory when dealing with what comes with this post …

So “massive” thanks to my friend Antonio, frontman for the Spanish bands Destino/Entierro, Freakhate and Slugfeast, for sending me their latest release.
Destino /Entierro’s demos are already hosted at the Swamp here.
III Psalms of Doom (2009) is the self-produced 3-way split involving Destino/Entierro with the Dutch extreme sludge-drone band Sunneater ((O)) and the Spanish industrial-electronic-drone-doom band General Winter. The split is out on Cain Records and has the official debut of guitarist Iñako into Destino/Entierro.
Destino/Entierro and General Winter are both from Tarragona (Spain), whereas Sunneater ((O)) is from the Dutch town of Groningen.

In these days the bands have also put the links to the split on their myspace pages (below) to make it available for free dowload. So below you’ll find the bands' links.
In the folder you will find also the high-quality files of the beautiful cover art.

The split has been reviewed and appreciated on several European webzines, like Doom Metal Front Zine (we were given their tasty doom compilation recently), Pitchline (www.pitchline-zine.com), www. xtreemmusic.org, etc.
The split includes three tracks by Sunneater ((O)), one long track (almost 18 minutes) by General Winter (frontman Abel is owner of Cain Records) and the last four tracks by Destino/Entierro.

Being this the name, Sunneater ((O)) bear obvious promises of extreme, alienating heaviness and gloom. The intro is atmospheric and bears sounds hinting to ancient or remote rituals, as the sounds don’t seem to come from “synthetic” instruments but from some sort of traditional instruments. The “body” of Sunneater ((O))’s contribution is no less than a “wall of sound” which comes in slow, heavy waves and on which distorted bass-driven riffs, deep gloomy vocals and minimalistic drumming are inserted. The reviewer in Pitchline-Zine remarks the obvious similarities with band Sunn ((O)) but also with bands like Corrupted for the extra dose of sludgy gloom, and points out the prospective originality and attractivenes of this band.
The three tracks contributed by Sunneater ((O)) are the band's EP originally titled "March to the Sunn".
The single, very long, beautiful track by General Winter is also atmospheric and heavy, and is also lacking of guitar sounds. Their sound is described as inbetween Doom and Industrial metal, the latter being especialliy related to the use of noise. The long track is rich in soft and atmospheric, dense and heavy rhythms with some accelerations and whispered but powerful vocals.
A high-energy push is eventually given by the comparatively more dynamic tracks by Destino/Entierro. Those who prefer the drony atmospheric sounds won’t probably appreciate the wild contribution by Antonio and Iñako, but for me the last tracks put some “salt onto the open wounds”! As in their previous demo releases, Destino/Entierro serve slabs of dense and filthy, “sulphureous”, doomy sludge/death style according to the “masters” Eyehategod, Grief, Coffins, etc. The sounds are raw, slow and distorted and, differently from the previous tracks in the split, Antonio’s fierce growling vocals play a dominant role in the sound.
I particularly like this aspect, as I have often expressed my appreciation for music where vocal parts are important.

So the combination of these bands results in a wealth of nasty distortions, gloomy sounds and sinister vocals, however the bands are rather different from one another and the final output is varied and, for this reason, quite pleasant.
Also I personally find the combination of doom, sludge and drone as highly evocative of sensations related to the “basic forces of nature”. So while Sunneater ((O)) and General Winter are evokative of “volatile” forces (air, wind, storm, water, ice, …), to me Destino/Entierro speaks about the “earth”.

So enjoy this 100% underground contribution by three European powerful and promising emerging bands. Please, show some love and leave some comments to the bands.
Hopefully we’ll see them as well at Roadburn soon … Why not?

Sunneater ((O)), General Winter and Destino/Entierro split - III Psalms of Doom (2009)

Sunneater/General Winter/Destino-Entierro - III Psalms Of Doom (2009)

(by Flo)

SUNNEATER & GENERAL WINTER & DESTINO / ENTIERRO
Split Cd
